Information about the Youth to Washington Contest

Each year Tri-County Electric sponsors the ‘Youth to Washington’ program. The program is open to any high school sophomores, juniors and, seniors providing they haven’t already participated in the tour.

A total of three area high school students are selected to attend the Youth to Washington program each year (June 9-June 16, 2006). Those three students each represent one of the three counties served by Tri-County Electric Cooperative (Marion, Jefferson and Washington). This well-chaperoned, educational program is sponsored by electric cooperatives throughout the nation.

The three winners of the Youth to Washington program and three alternates also participate in Illinois Rural Electric Youth Day in Springfield (April).
Requirements to earn the trip are simple. A test consisting of true-false and multiple choice questions on material in a rural electrification booklet is administered.
Study booklets are available at Tri-County or any of the area high schools. Students may sign up at their high school to attend the program testing and complimentary meal. The winner and alternate will be chosen the night of the testing.

Students must reside in a home served by Tri-County and must be attending one of the high schools in Marion, Jefferson or Washington County. Call 244-5151 with any questions.
