Major Outages
If the cooperative experiences a major outage as may occur with a tornado or an ice storm, information regarding the damage and storm restoration efforts will be published here. We realize you may not have power at your home but will have access to the internet from other locations. Hopefully, this will help keep you informed as to the cooperative's progress in restoring power.
Energy Issues:
We need your help. Congress is considering climate change legislation that could significantly increase your monthly electric bill.
We recently sent postcards for you to complete: one to Senator Durbin and one to Senator Burris. We are asking you to complete these postcards to tell the Senators that climate change legislation must be done in a way that protects your monthly budget.
This climate change legislation (also called cap and trade) creates new government policy for energy use and production. It regulates green house gases by charging you for the green house gases emitted when electricity is produced.
The way the bill is currently structured, consumers in the Midwest will bear the brunt of increased electric bills because of our heavy reliance on coal to produce electricity. That is unfair. We must strive to make sure climate change goals are achievable and affordable. Our elected officials must work with us to make that happen.
Our Senators need to fight for a bill that is:
a
FAIR - Climate change legislation needs to recognize regional differences in how electricity is produced.a
AFFORDABLE - Any climate change plan must keep electricity rates affordable for all Americans.a
ACHIEVABLE - Climate change goals must be realistic to ensure long-term success. You should have received the postcards in the mail within the past week. Please take the time to sign and return these cards. They will go to the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), our national advocacy group. The cards will then be hand delivered directly to our senators. This campaign is our grass roots effort to make our voices heard in the halls of Congress.
Our job at Tri-County Electric is to provide you with affordable, reliable electric service. Please help us by sending signing and mailing the postcards.
