Tri-County Electric Cooperative is headquartered in Mount Vernon, Illinois at the intersection of Interstates 64 and 57. The cooperative serves more than 15,700 residential, agricultural, commercial and industrial customers in the three-county area.
Storm Outages & Blinks - January 17
The first round of thunderstorms for 2012 rumbled through the cooperative's service territory during the early morning hours of January 17, spawning storm warnings in Marion, Jefferson and Washington counties. Damage to our system was isolated mostly caused by falling trees, and resulted in outages to approximately 125 members. Power was restored to all members by around 8:00 a.m.
Between 8;00 and 9:00, after the storms rolled through and the wind changed direction, nearly 1800 members served by our Patoka and Odin substations experienced blinking lights caused by problems on Ameren transmission lines feeding the cooperative's substations. We apologize for the inconvenience of these blinks caused by Ameren's lines. However, blinks caused by Ameren transmission lines are basically out of our control.
This reminds us that the spring and summer thunderstorm season is just around the corner, and with these storms will come the potential for blinks and power outages. Be prepared, stay away from downed power lines and stay safe.

Order of Restoring Power
Power is first restored to our substations, then the lines from the substation, and finally individual residences. Please be patient. We do not want anyone to get hurt. Linemen will get service restored as quickly as possible!
SAFETY ISSUE - Remember, it is unsafe for anyone to attempt to move a downed power line or cut a tree limb off a power line. You never know if the line is energized or may become energized. STAY AWAY from any power line!!!
